Services

Call us at 818-769-4600. Ask to speak to an Actuary. We'll be delighted to run over our services with you.

Our services fall into 3 main categories: initial setup (or plan restatement), regular annual administration, and special projects.

Initial Setup and Plan Restatement

The plan document is the legal document which details how your plan will work, who is eligible and what benefits or contributions are allowed, etc. We always use either our own Non-Standardized Prototype plan, or a Volume Submitter plan, and on rare occasions, an Individually Designed plan; any of which will provide you with amazing flexibility and control over the plan itself and the choice of investment managers of the plan. It is all about giving you CHOICES.

Initial setup includes the initial plan document preparation and normally also include all discussions related to setting up the plan, as well as obtaining approval of the plan by the IRS.

All pension plans must be restated by 2002. No exceptions, the IRS requires it.

Regular Annual Services

Regular annual services include : sending out census and trust requests to you and checking what you or your CPA send back to us in preparation of the annual valuation of the plan and the related 5500 series reporting forms for sending to you and ultimate sending to the IRS/PWBA of the Department of Labor; preparation of the annual valuation for the plan; checking all of the information you send us relative to identifying potential operational defects of the plan, and identifying these to you; discussions and work with you and your accountant as required on contribution amounts and options and timing, eligibility requirements, vesting, proposed changes in the plan, and general work related to the operation of the plan such as age 70 1/2 calculations and notices, participant loan preparation and notices of problem payment schedules; incorrect registration on investment accounts; improper inclusion or exclusion of otherwise properly includible or excluded employees; obtaining extensions for the pension plan returns as required; maintenance of 242(b) election notices.

We also do necessary housekeeping work on the plan documents, such as mandatory amendments to the underlying field prototype plans we sponsor on your behalf, and on the software related to these plans ( this software seems to have changed quite a bit in the last three years, requiring us to do a lot to keep up, but which you won't even notice).

We work quite hard to simplify the paper chores you have to do for us. We work quietly behind the scenes, and send you information requests as needed that are streamlined for your simplicity, but which satisfy our needs for data.

At the same time, we are here to discuss with you whatever it is you need to discuss on your pension plan. If you want to get very involved with the pension administration and paperwork and to really understand your pension plan, we are happy to accomodate you. On the other hand, if all you want to do is sign papers when your signature is needed, and otherwise just send us the year end information we require, that's fine with us too. You choose what level of involvement you want. We will send you papers detailing what you need to pay attention to, and then it is up to you to figure out how deeply you need to be involved.

Special Projects

Once in a blue moon, the IRS and/or the PWBA may audit your pension plan. We handle the audit at our offices, and almost always there are no problems arising from pension audits.

If you should elect to terminate your pension plan, we will do all of the work associated with the termination.

Sometimes other extra-ordinary work comes up; for example, an employer may lay off half the workforce, which will require us to prepare Option Election Forms for quite a few participants to distribute the benefits.

What We Don't Do

We do not act as investment advisors, or as the Plan Administrator (you as the employer are the official Plan Administrator under pension law). We are not fiduciaries under the Plan. We do not make Plan design decisions, or decide on benefit rights under the Plan. We will provide you with advice on plan design and benefit rights, but you make the final decision.
